What is Study.com?
Study.com is a website that provides educational video for a fee. Basically, it is just like Udemy or Chegg. It has a huge variety of topics available on the platform.
You can learn traditional subjects like Science, Accounting, Financial, Engineering and more advanced topics like programming and social science.
It was founded by Adrian Ridner in 2002 and headquartered in Mountain View, CA.
The company is currently hosting over 25,000 video lessons and 50,000 articles to 30 million students worldwide. It is definitely one of the largest educational websites nowadays.
So there are people who are interested in working for Study.com. This review is written to provide more insight about what’s it like working under Study.com.
How to Make Money with Study.com?
Working as a teacher on Study.com requires you to go through the traditional job hiring process.
There are interviews to test your proficiency in the field that you want to be in. It claimed to be quite hard to get hired on Study.com especially now with more competitions.
According to Study.com, their onsite employees make around 50k/year to 100k/year.
Aside from the onsite employee, they also hire remote writer which remote writer gets paid on a per project basis.
Many remote writers complained about the pay being as low as minimum wage.
The biggest concern is that not every post you write will get accepted by their editors. You can only get paid if your post gets accepted.
There are a few different job opportunities as shown below that Study.com offers.
- Lesson Plan Writer
- Quiz Optimizer
- Assessment Writer and Reviewer
- Video Editor
- Article Writer
- Curriculum Designer
- Statistics Expert
They pay through PayPal twice a month. I have not seen anyone complaining about not getting paid so far. So at least it is a legit company will actually pay you.
Don’t be surprised there are too many scams online that will never pay their remote workers. People often realized it only after spending some time with the program.
So that’s why I think it is important to inform people about what’s good or bad to prevent wasting your time.
What Do I Like About Study.com?
1. Learn while get paid
The good thing about working for Study.com is that you get to improve your skills like writing, teaching and video editing as you work.
There’s no better thing than learning while getting paid.
2. Flexible Schedule
Being a remote worker keep you away from the 9-5 rat race.
You don’t have to wake up early in the morning and stuck in traffic for more than 30 minutes to get to a place you don’t like.
You get to choose when and where you want to work. So it is a big plus.
What Don’t I Like About Study.com?
1. Low Pay
Many remote workers have complained about the pay. I think it is not suitable for those who are looking for a main stream of income.
It can be a nice side income for those who maintain a full time job. But it is definitely not enough to replace your full time job.
2. Limited Income
Not only the pay is low. There’s also not enough work for all workers. It is not like you can work on 1000 projects if you are super hard working.
There’s only so much projects and yet you need to share them with other workers.
3. Not Guaranteed Pay
You need to write a really good post in order to get paid. Otherwise you will be wasting your time.
So I suggest spend a good amount of time Googling your subject and make sure you proofread it before submitting.
People thought it would be easy to get accepted. Thus they did not put much effort into writing the post and ended up not getting accepted. Then they become mad about it.
Is Study.com A Scam?
Study.com can be a good option for those who are looking for a side income with a legit content creating company.
Remember the salary you get here can be very limited. In the end, it is still a remote job so there’s not too much expectation on the pay.
However, I would recommend you to create your own blog if you want to make money by writing.
It is super easy to create a blog if you have the right tool and you can write whatever you like.
Then you need to learn how to monetize your blog to get paid while you sleep. It is definitely doable but it takes time and effort.
I doubted it myself but I gave it a try since there’s no harm trying it. Few months in, I am already receiving side income from Google Adsense and some decent affiliate commission.
If you are interested to learn how, please feel free to check below where I share more about how I make money blogging.
